A filmmaker and his crew attempt to bury themselves in the glowing realm of Port-Royal and Jansenism and to sketch out in fragments of a different 17th century vision, oddly familiar and reminiscent of Pascal, Racine and the ‘‘Friends of Truth.’’ Well-travelled landscapes, readings, interviews and work notes all mingle, but the historical quest gradually gives way to dizziness. From baroque-like flights of fancy to hysterical convulsions – the whole film changes dramatically and irreparably comes up against the unanswered question of Grace.
